Jindera Lantern Festival

Celebrate Jindera’s German heritage by participating in a traditional German Lantern Festival.

Children and adults create paper lanterns, participate in a ‘der Laternenumzug’ lantern procession and are entertained with a presentation of the St. Martins story. There will be music and a pied piper to lead the procession, culminating in the Village Green with a presentation of the ‘Laternenlauf’ or Martinmas depiction of Martin the Merciful, the legendary benefactor of the poor. German food and beverages will be available at the Village Green.

Lantern-making workshops will be available before the Lantern festival and in the local schools so that all will be able to walk with a lantern at the festival.

Following the Parade, families can enter the ‘Illuminate our History’ light show that will be presented in the grounds of the Jindera Museum. They can enjoy German-themed food and drinks as well as be entertained by musicians and storytellers within the lovely museum grounds.

The Museum complex consists of historic buildings centred around the General store, set in nearly a hectare of landscaped grounds. The site will have various illuminations highlighting the wattle and daub cottage, the slab hut, a remarkable collection of farm implements, a historic post office, and several other structures such as the cow bail and hay barn.
